Police have warned of the dangers of drink- driving after a Bradford woman was jailed for four years for causing the death of her husband.
Tina Panesar, 28, of Baring Avenue, Bradford Moor, was twice the drink-drive limit when she crashed a BMW at high speed on the Leeds Ring Road at Shadwell in April last year, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Her husband Sukhbir Panesar, 30, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
Panesar, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving when over the limit, had initially told police she had been a passenger in the car.
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Andy Lister, of the West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “Following a thorough investigation we were able to establish that Tina Panesar was driving the vehicle when it left the road.
“She was also found to be over the prescribed alcohol limit which severely compromised her ability to control the car and ultimately led to the collision in which her husband was tragically killed.
“This case demonstrates the devastating consequences associated with drink-driving and should serve as warning to anyone who considers getting behind the wheel after consuming a significant amount of alcohol.”
