A Bradford fish and chip shop has become the first in the country to receive top marks from a national trade body.
Towngate Fisheries in Idle was given a perfect score for the National Federation of Fish Friers’ Fish and Chip Quality Award after an inspector from the organisation visited the shop.
The chippy, which is the first in West Yorkshire to receive the award, was assessed on its presentation, hygiene and cleanliness and the quality of its products.
Staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills were also examined.
The award is not the first time the shop has been recognised. Last year, it was among 30 chippys across the country shortlisted for the Best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop Award.
Mark Drummond, who has owned the business since 1997, said: “We are delighted to be the first fish and chip shop in the UK to achieve a 100 per cent score in this award.
“We always try to give the people of Bradford the best quality and value for money fish and chips, along with great service in a bright modern environment, and to have this recognised in this award is a great credit to the whole team.
