The district’s community leaders have reacted to reports of the death of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.
Rashid Awan, president of the Pakistan Society of West Yorkshire, said: “It’s very good news for everyone in the world, particularly for Pakistan, America and the people affected by the atrocities of Al Qaida.
“Having said that, this is definitely not the end of this in my view. I think there is the likelihood of retaliation by the second leadership of Al Qaida and we must be mindful of that. This is quite inevitable because they won’t want to be seen as the whole organisation dying.
“I would urge the people of this country and President Obama to continue working with Pakistan to establish security and continue with Mr Obama’s strategy until every last person belonging to Al Qaida is eradicated.”
