Organisers of a charity night in memory of a brave teenager are desperately searching for a singing star.

Despite efforts to attract a celebrity for the event at the Bradford Bulls Stadium at Odsal, the woman behind it, Bev Smith, says she is now struggling.

The event is on Saturday, May 14, in honour of lung transplant recipient Reece Walker-Sharp, 14, who lost his fight for life in January.

The 14-year-old, of Holme Wood, was 12 months old when he was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hyper-tension, a rare condition.

When he was four Reece was fitted with a medical back-pack. It worked 24 hours a day, pumping medication into his blood-stream to open affected vessels and lessen the strain on his heart.

In 2005 Reece had a lung transplant which led to three years of improved health. But in 2008 he suffered a setback when his new lungs became infected.

Doctors diagnosed him with an incurable condition called obliterative bronchiolitis, an inflammatory response that affects 50 per cent of lung transplant patients. In 2009 he was offered a second transplant but refused.

Donations from his funeral went to Martin House, which is where proceeds from the May fundraiser will also be going.

Mrs Smith had been hoping one of Bradford’s former X Factor contestants would offer to perform.

She said: “We are hoping that someone may still get in touch with us. We are really desperate now for the singer.

“We have plenty of prizes, £200 jewellery voucher, meal vouchers, record a CD voucher, a new fitted carpet, Jurys Inn overnight bed and breakfast stay, a signed Bulls shirt, tour of Liverpool football ground and museum, a signed photo of a Manchester United player, Subway vouchers, speedway tickets – the list goes on but unfortunately no singer.”

Anyone who can help or would like to buy tickets, which are £5 each, is asked to call 07561 327580.
