Council workmen have been forced to dismantle a new retaining wall they had only just built.
A dismayed resident said the reason given to him by one of the contractors was that it had been constructed in the wrong place.
“It beggars belief,” said Steve Slater, who lives at Whins Wood, near the site in Halifax Road, Hermit Hole, Keighley.
“They’d been building this wall for weeks.
“When I saw them knocking it down I couldn’t believe it and asked what they were doing.
“When they said they were having to move it because it was in the wrong place I was absolutely astonished.
“Not only is this a complete waste of public money but the delays for motorists caused by the work will now go on even longer.”
Single-lane traffic, controlled by temporary lights, is in operation along the affected section of the busy A629.
Bradford Council this week denied the wall had been incorrectly placed, claiming the issue was over its design.
