Taxpayers’ watchdogs have called on Bradford Council to scrap annual “jollies” to the French Riviera for the world’s largest property convention.
Bradford Council has paid more than £32,000 in sending councillors and officers to the annual MIPIM event in Cannes, France, over the past four years.
They have also spent money on sending delegates to other international conferences – including one called SKINT.
A total of £32,793.41 has been spent since the first MIPIM trip in 2008, including a bill of £17,000 last year (2010).
This year’s total cost – including travel, accommodation, registration and a share in a Leeds City Region exhibition stand – was £13,409.
Andrew Allison, the Yorkshire spokesman for the taxpayers alliance, said other councils had ditched the annual visit and urged Bradford Council to do the same.
