Allotment-holders desperate for water claim Bradford Council has “dried up” on them and their wilting plants.
But council bosses say the problem lies with water pressure in the supply to the site and that they are investigating.
Norma Wilson, who is 73 and has had a plot at the Cottage Road site in Greengates, Bradford, for ten years, said the allotments had been deprived of water for the past two weeks despite people’s requests to the Council for help.
“It’s been useless us calling them,” she said. “We’re not getting any answers or explanations at all. We’re getting nothing from them – a bit like the taps.”
There are 25 plots off Cottage Road, and though three are currently empty, the rest are well looked-after, said Mrs Wilson, with four taps to serve them.
She said: “We pay our £31 rent a year and what usually happens is that we have a water supply until October, then it’s switched off until about the start of April. We’re still waiting.
“We should be putting our plants out now but everything has been wilting because it’s been so hot.”
A Bradford Council spokesman said: “We have been informed of a water pressure problem at the allotments. We are investigating the cause.
“As soon as we discover what the problem is, we shall endeavour to repair it.”
