With just three days to go, excitement about the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton is reaching fever pitch in some parts of the Bradford district.
Street parties are taking place in Cullingworth, Baildon, Ilkley and Burley-in-Whafedale as well as celebrations at care homes, community centres and businesses in the city.
At sheltered housing scheme Charlotte Court, in Smith Road, Great Horton, residents have clubbed together to arrange a party for Friday.
Resident William Riddell, 90, who has set up the television in the communal area at the scheme, said: “We are going to have a get-together and make a real effort; it’s going to be a grand do.”
Celebrations will be taking place on Thursday at Springfield Care Home, with a coffee morning and banquet planned for lunch.
Staff will be dressing up for the occasion while residents are preparing flags and decorations for the home’s dining room.
Springfield Care Home manager Sarah Horner said: “This is such an exciting event. There will be lots of fun, colour and wonderful food all made from fresh seasonal ingredients.”
Mecca Bingo in Bradford will be asking customers to record their own messages of congratulations to Prince William and Kate Middleton as part of its day-long Royal Wedding extravaganza.
Commemorative scrolls are available for customers to write good luck messages, which will be delivered to Buckingham Palace after the wedding.
The Hunsworth Table restaurant in Whitehall Road, Bradford will be offering free meals to children dressed up as princes and princesses on Friday.
Cheryl Hall, a spokesman for the restaurant, said: “We wanted to add some royalty to the day and thought a restaurant full of petite princesses and pint-sized princes would be the perfect way.”
Allerton Children’s Centre is holding a party in Ladyhill Park on Thursday with donkey rides, games of ‘musical thrones’ and crown-shaped sandwiches, while the Bankfoot Partnership in Bradford is hosting a wedding-themed party from 2pm to 5pm to celebrate the opening of an allotment site at the Faxfleet estate.
Pubs in Otley town centre are being renamed The Yorkshire Princess to reflect Kate Middleton’s family ties to the county, while Saltaire Brewery in Shipley will be serving a special royal wedding ale, Nuptuale, between noon and 10pm on the big day to honour the couple.
