Wilsden Band is blowing its own trumpet to celebrate its 30th birthday.

After three decades, the brass band is very much a family affair, with cornet-playing Haworth family Liz Davies and her children Bethan, 13, and James, 11, being the latest ensemble to join.

Musical director Ken Lee met his wife Shelley, the principal cornet player, through the band four years ago.

Other members include a GP and his family, and a son and his dad who was also persuaded to take up an instrument.

Mr Lee said: “We’re a busy band and we really are just like a big family – with lots of families who are members.

“We are proud of what we do and achieve and want people to join in our birthday celebrations by coming along to our next concert.”

The band’s next performance will be at Bingley Arts Centre on Saturday, May 7, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and available from band members on (01535) 272216 or from the box office on (01274) 752000.
