A boss and his company secretary have been locked up and warned to expect long prison sentences for their part in a suspected £100 million international drugs ring.
Andrew Varey and Maxine Robinson were taken down to the cells at Bradford Crown Court after the trial judge said he feared they would abscond on bail.
The former couple were convicted by a jury in little more than an hour yesterday of conspiracy to supply heroin and cannabis.
They were arrested after French Customs seized a £10 million drugs consignment bound for Varey’s company, Varey Shopfittings, on Jubilee Way, Windhill, Shipley.
The trial heard records showed it was the 14th similar delivery addressed to the business in less than six months.
The trial judge, Recorder Peter Babb, told Varey and Robinson: “A substantial prison sentence is inevitable for each of you.”
