Traders and residents are being asked what they think of changes to parking restrictions in Bradford city centre.
It is proposed that all limited-waiting parking bays in the city centre become pay-and-display from 10am to 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday, as part of a Bradford Council review.
After a public consultation, the Council has increased the amount of time people will be allowed to park in the spaces from one hour to a maximum of two hours.
The Council has also added an increased number of parking spaces throughout the city centre in areas including Godwin Street and Cheapside.
Val Summerscales, secretary of Bradford Chamber of Trade, said: “We have been liaising with the Council prior to the advertising of what they are planning to do.
“It could be seen as a contentious issue and we needed to get together to work out a compromise to get people into the city centre.”
She said that getting trade into the city centre was more complicated than being a matter of parking, citing “out- of-town facilities” as creating a problem for city centre shops across the country.
“Under this review we have made a written response saying we are disappointed all the new spaces they are creating, apart from one little section outside St George’s Hall, will be introduced as pay-and-display,” she said.
“We are pleased they are creating extra places but more than disappointed they will be pay-and-display.”
She said she was pleased there would be an “element of free parking” with the pay-and-display to be enforced only between 10am and 4.30pm.
A spokesman for Bradford Council said: “There were three consultation sessions earlier this year. We collected comments and made a few changes, and we are putting it out to consultation again.
“We have tried to take responses on board and incorporate them as far as they can.”
The deadline for responses to the consultation is Friday, May 6.
