A man was being questioned last night in connection with the killing of teenager Beena Bhatt, who died in a stabbing incident at a Bradford city centre flat.

The 33-year-old man was taken into police custody immediately after he was released from hospital yesterday, where he had been detained with non-life threatening injuries since the incident at Landmark House in Broadway almost two weeks ago.

He was been questioned by murder squad detectives at a police station in Bradford about 18-year-old Miss Bhatt’s death.

Emergency services were called to the third floor flat at about 2.30pm on Friday, April 8, following reports of a knife attack, and found three injured people.

Miss Bhatt was brought out of the flats in a wheelchair and paramedics tried to resuscitate her in the street. She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but died there from her injuries.

Her 32-year-old mother suffered minor injuries during the incident but was released from hospital the same day after treatment.

The 33-year-old man was detained at BRI under police guard, until his release.

Detective Superintendent Dick Nuttall, of the homicide and major enquiry team, who is leading the investigation, said yesterday: “The suspect is now out of hospital. He is under arrest for murder and is now being questioned.”

Miss Bhatt, of Aberdeen Place, Lidget Green, had been in a relationship with the suspect until recently.
