Thousands of pounds are now rolling in for charities after Bradford runners completed the gruelling London Marathon.
Bradford East Liberal Democrats MP David Ward, hopes to have raised £2,000 for Bradford’s Marie Curie Hospice with his efforts on Sunday.
The MP, who suffered a leg injury after 14 miles, described the course as “a bit of a slog”.
But he said: “It was a fabulous day. Everybody seemed to be raising money for a different charity, it was quite touching.
“I went to visit the hospice last autumn and I was just so impressed that I thought I would play my part.”
About 36,500 runners took part in the race through London, now in its 31st year.
Also among the Bradford runners was Catherine Mills, of Tyersal, who was inspired to raise about £1,000 for Martin House Children’s Hospice by the children with whom she works in her job at Bradford Social Services.
She said: “I did it in four hours, five minutes and 56 seconds."
Andrew Rayner, of Ilkley Road, Otley, has so far collected almost £300 for his chosen charity, the World Cancer Research Fund.
Mr Rayner, who is a member of Otley Athletic Club, said: “My time was seven minutes quicker than my previous London Marathon.”
Wayne Tiplady, of Wyke, raised more than £1,000 for Heart Research UK.
He said: “My grandma died of a heart attack so it was close to my heart.”
