national charity that helps homeless people who have a history of rough sleeping is set to bring its expertise to the streets of Bradford.

Simon on the Streets, which works with homeless and rootless individuals, is introducing a street worker to the city to offer support to people with complex needs and encourage them to seek the help they need and may not have otherwise been able to access.

Founded in London, the charity already has a strong presence in neighbouring Leeds and Huddersfield.

On Wednesday, May 18, the charity is hosting a breakfast event at City Hall in Bradford to talk about its work.

Clive Sandle, director of Simon on the Streets, explained that everything the charity did was outreach-based to empower and motivate people to make changes in their lives.

He said the group would also work with other services in the city.

Mr Sandle said: “What we find is people we work with say ‘I have hundreds of acquaintances but no friends.’ ‘‘We recognise emotional support is something people should be given.

‘‘The people in our target group may have no significant other in their life, or they believe they don’t have any significant others in their lives.”

The charity’s ultimate aim is to offer the necessary support to encourage people to access the services they desperately need to begin to make positive changes in their lives.

Like most charities, the organisation is always on the look out for funding and recently supporters walked over hot coals at The Faversham pub in Leeds to raise £4,500 to support the work of the charity.
