A murder accused told a jury he attacked and robbed three students in their Bradford home – striking one with a bottle and stabbing two with a knife.
Reaben Kareem, 21, fought back tears at Bradford Crown Court as he relived the day he smashed a bottle on the head of pharmacy student Sally Ho and stabbed her law student boyfriend Gavin Stolarczyk in his side.
Kareem said he tied them up with the help of accomplice Jwanru Osman, 21.
Both men deny murdering Miss Ho’s brother, chemistry and forensic science student Tony Ho, 19, at the house in Grantham Road, Great Horton, Bradford, that all three Bradford University students shared.
Kareem, of Coal Pool, Walsall, West Midlands, admits wounding Miss Ho and Mr Stolarczyk with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to rob. Osman, of Northolt, Middlesex, denies all the charges.
The jury has heard that Mr Ho’s body was discovered by his sister when Kareem and Osman left the house after the robbery on January 22 last year. He had been stabbed 13 times and his throat slashed.
Yesterday, Kareem told the court he changed his mind about robbing the students but Osman insisted they went ahead, saying he had not driven 200 miles to go home empty-handed.
Kareem said Miss Ho let him into the house and he opened the door for Osman, who was armed with a wheelbrace.
Kareem said he hit Miss Ho twice on the head with a bottle in the cellar sitting room.
When she screamed for help, he and Osman tied her to a chair in the boiler room and taped up her mouth.
Kareem asked Miss Ho for a couple of thousand pounds, threatening to cut off her finger if she lied about how much money she had.
He then stabbed Mr Stolarczyk and asked him for money.
Kareem said he showed Mr Ho the blood-stained knife and told him to go to the cellar.
Mr Ho swung at him in the hallway, knocking him down.
Kareem said he panicked and stabbed him twice in the stomach. As Mr Ho threw punches at him, the knife again went into him.
“The knife stuck in his arm and there was blood splashing all over the place,” Kareem said.
Mr Ho sat on his sister’s bed and he and Osman bound his wounds.
Kareem said he dialled 999 for help but Osman snatched the phone off him saying the police would arrive before an ambulance.
The trial continues.
