An Ilkley fish and chip shop has come up with a new take on fried eggs to get the customers rolling in over Easter.
Leeds Road chippy Grandad Nicol’s will be serving deep-fried Creme Eggs as an Easter special next week, complete with a sweet maple syrup accompaniment.
Shop owner Mark Nicol, who has tried other chocolate snacks fresh from the fryer, says he can recommend the treat.
“What we do is coat them in a fine flour, then batter them, and put the whole egg in to fry, then we serve them with maple syrup,” he said.
The filling inside of the egg will melt, says Mark, making for a sweet, sticky treat.
The shop has not been the first to hatch the plot, however. A Doncaster fish and chip shop took national headlines earlier this week when it set out to convert the nation’s tastes to the delights of deep-fried Creme Eggs.
