A Bradford-based theatre company is exploring the effects of religious extremism in a new play.
Conor Ibrahiem, of Arakan Creative, which specialises in Islamic stories, said: “We hope the play will entertain and educate audiences in the causes and consequences of extremists, in both far-right and Islamic camps.”
Called Extremism, the play is about 19-year-old Ryan Vincent who lives with his mum, Denise, and sister Jenna. Ryan, who is of dual English/Pakistani heritage, has a promising career as a builder’s apprentice but one day a simple choice divides his life.
Conor said: “The audience journeys through two alternate realities; one steered by the Far Right and the other by Islamic extremists. The question is: would both lead to the same fate?”
- Extremism runs at the Alhambra Studio from tonight to Saturday. For tickets ring (01274) 432000. Tickets are free, on a first- come-first-served basis, for schools, colleges and youth groups.
