Two German women from Bradford’s twin city of Hamm, are learning some vital skills on work experience at the Midlands Hotel – how to pull the perfect pint of Yorkshire ale.

Language students Alannah Jagermann, 17, and her best friend Linda Gossel, 18, are spending three weeks at the hotel in Bradford city centre.

As well as their pint-pulling, the girls, who study English and French at the Friedrich Liszt Berufskolleg in Hamm, are using the opportunity to improve their spoken English to help them pass exams.

“It is difficult but we are learning how to fill the glass properly,” said Alannah, whose father is a Burgeramtsleiter, a senior civic official, in Hamm.

It was Alannah’s father, who arranged the work placement when he asked the Lord Mayor of Bradford’s office if a business could host them.
