A police crackdown on traffic crime has been hailed a success.

The Manningham and Toller Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out an operation with the Vehicle and Operators Services Agency (VOSA), Bradford Council, Hackney Carriages, court enforcement officers and HM Revenue and Customs.

During the day, 44 fixed penalty tickets were issued for offences including using a mobile phone behind the wheel, not wearing seatbelts and having illegal tyres and window tints. One vehicle was seized for having no insurance and nine prohibition notices were issued by VOSA.

HM Revenue and Customs dipped 48 vehicles to check for red diesel and none was found.

Three people were arrested – two for non-payment of fines in excess of £500 and one for a breach of their bail conditions.

NPT Sergeant John Toothill said: “It was a successful day tackling some of the priorities set by residents.”
