A 36-year-old man was jailed for almost four years for brutally attacking a student celebrating his 18th birthday.
Father-of-five Neil Evans punched Alan Burgoyne, stamped on his head and bit him twice on the arm after the partying teenager woke his children, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
The judge warned Evans, of West Terrace, Burley-in-Wharfedale, he could face an indefinite prison sentence if he appeared before the court again for violence.
Evans pleaded guilty to attempting to cause Mr Burgoyne grievous bodily harm on the night on May 8 last year. The court heard he shared an address with the teenager and both had been out on the birthday celebration.
After they arrived home, a row broke out. Evans grabbed Mr Burgoyne by the neck and stamped on his face and the back of his head.
The student fled to a bedroom but Evans pushed his way in and resumed the attack, kicking and stamping on Mr Burgoyne, butting him and biting him to the armpit and arm. He suffered cuts and bruises.
The court heard that Evans had convictions for violence dating back more than ten years.
Evans’ barrister, Simon Myers, said he claimed there was a fight between himself and Mr Burgoyne.
Evans was drunk after the birthday celebration and became angry when the noise woke his children, the court heard.
Judge Jonathan Rose branded the attack on Mr Burgoyne “brutal and sustained” and jailed Evans for three years and nine months.
“If there is a further offence of this type, a future court might have to consider whether detaining you indefinitely might be the only way to protect the public from the extremes of your violence,” Judge Rose said.
