Vandals caused hundreds of pounds of damage after going on a wrecking spree in Baildon.

Wendy Shaw, chairman of Baildon in Bloom, discovered three hanging baskets in Westgate had been ripped down and the contents emptied on to the pavement.

Two wooden wheelbarrows, fixed into flagstones in Bedlam Garden, Westgate, were also smashed up.

She said: “They have emptied them out and the flagstone has come up with the wheelbarrow.”

She said attempts had been made to rip a metal sign out of the ground and a large conifer had been snapped in half. Mrs Shaw said: “Baildon in Bloom take a pride in Baildon and we do it voluntarily.

“We are not going to replace the hanging baskets because we have had them vandalised on several occasions up there and we are not competing this year.”

Inspector John Tatham, of Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “If anyone has any information about damage to hanging baskets in Baildon or general vandalism of this nature we would ask them to get in touch with us on (01274) 537454.”
