Asthma attack cards will be distributed to schools across Bradford in February as part of a regional strategy to reduce the number of avoidable hospital admissions for children with asthma. The pocket-sized guides, developed by Asthma UK, are designed to be carried by school staff to provide important information including what to do in the event of an asthma attack, and emergency contact numbers.
Jean Hawkins, children’s lead at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “Asthma is one of the most common long-term conditions in the UK, affecting one in 11 children. So it is likely that schools will experience caring for children with asthma on a regular basis, and will also be required to assist children experiencing asthma attacks.
“The cards give step-by-step information to staff on what to do if one of their children has an asthma attack.”
