Residents across the Bradford district have been invited to give their opinions on a draft plan that will set out the county’s transport priorities for the next three years.
Following last year’s consultation on the full 15-year West Yorkshire Local Transport plan, the three-year Implementation Plan outlines spending priorities from April this year to 2014.
Priorities include schemes suggested by local communities, the provision of bus priority schemes on main roads into town centres, major road maintenance projects across West Yorkshire, cycling and walking schemes, and the development of larger schemes including new rail stations and the New Generation Transport trolleybus network.
Bradford Councillor Chris Greaves, chairman of transport authority Metro, said: “Having a three-year Implementation Plan means we can focus activities and target funding where they will have the most immediate beneficial impact.
“Compared to previous years, funding for local transport schemes is down almost 50 per cent, so we’ve had to trim our cloth accordingly. But we’ve still been able to produce a three-year plan of action that will help the county and wider City Region to grow economically, as the country emerges from recession, but which is flexible enough so that we can change the spending priorities, or alter the rate of progress on some schemes.”
Once the consultation is complete, the Local Transport Plan partners aim to use the feedback to ‘fine tune’ the Implementation Plan and complete the full 15-year Local Transport Plan in time for the start in April.
Coun Greaves said: “Transport affects nearly every aspect of all our lives.
“It has an impact on our work and social lives, our health and education, our connections to families and friends, and that’s why we want as many people as possible to comment.”
The consultation runs until Friday, February 11, and can be completed online at wyltp.com/ip. Printed copies of the consultation document will be available from local libraries in all five West Yorkshire local authority areas, on request from the Local Transport Plan team on (0113) 348 1726 or by e-mailing ltp@wypte.
