Addingham will get extra grit bins and brighter Christmas lights next winter.
The Parish Council has agreed to spend around £10,000 on two capital projects to benefit the community in the next financial year.
Councillor Gordon Campbell said: “The precept remains the same. However, we have agreed that we will fund additional expenditure in respect of Christmas lights, grit bins and grit from reserves.”
Councillors had suggested a one-off extra charge of £5 on every household in the village next year, to raise enough money for additional grit bins and grit for several winter years.
The council has been told that elderly residents had ended up stranded in Southfield House and Storiths Court during the recent icy weather. Some of the streets hit badly in wintry weather do not meet Bradford Council’s criteria for priority gritting services.
Councillors last year did a survey of grit bins in the village, but decided against paying for extra bins or snow clearing services.
Coun Campbell said money from council reserves would also replace the ‘sad’ failing old Christmas lights in the village next year.
