The future of Burley-in-Wharfedale library is assured despite the cuts facing Bradford Council, residents have been told.
Speaking to about 100 people at the Burley Neighbourhood Forum, district councillor Matt Palmer said rumours about the library facing cuts, or even the axe, were not true.
And he said discussions were ongoing between the Council and a third party about investment in the library in the near future.
Although Coun Palmer did not reveal any details about the third party, there has been speculation in the village about the Co-op wishing to move in on the site.
“There are lots of rumours circulating the village,” he said.
“There are absolutely no proposals to close it (the library). There is a discussion going on between a third party and the council about investing in the site.”
Coun Palmer said he could not reveal many details about the discussions, but insisted any deal would not alter the opening hours or the services provided.
“Hopefully, I can put people’s minds to rest,” he said.
