Councillors have turned down an application to build a detached house on land off Barley Cote Road, Riddlesden, Keighley.
The proposals, to build a house in the rear garden of a bungalow, provoked eight letters of objection and three letters of support.
Planning officers had argued in favour of granting approval but the Keighley area planning panel unanimously rejected the plans.
Members said the new house would be too big for the site, constitute over-development, reduce the amount of car parking and be out of keeping with its surroundings.
