Bradford City chairman Mark Lawn admitted he was lucky to escape unscathed from a terrifying motorway accident.
Mr Lawn and reserve goalkeeper Lloyd Saxton were travelling to Aldershot when his car was struck by debris on the M25.
The object, a lorry wheel arch, was thrown up by the vehicle in front and landed on the bonnet of his Bentley.
It damaged the front unit and snapped off the Bentley emblem hitting the roof.
Mr Lawn said: “I was about two miles from the turn off for the M3 when the car in front suddenly put the anchors on. Luckily I had enough space to brake but he didn’t and drove straight over some debris.
“The next thing I knew it had hit my car and smashed the front end. It knocked the ‘flying B’ on the bonnet and smacked against the windscreen.
“Fortunately I just had time to keep the car straight and didn’t veer off into another lane. I was able to pull off half a mile down the road to inspect the damage.
“I think the young goalkeeper was more shaken up than me but it was very frightening. It’s just a good job we were in a Bentley and not something smaller – or you might have ended up picking heads out of the back of the car.”
The pair were able to complete their journey to Hampshire in time to see the Bantams get beaten 1-0.
Mr Lawn said: “Metal can be fixed. It’s not so easy with humans. The main thing was that neither of us in the car were seriously hurt.”
