Hundreds of people are expected to grab their frying pans and head for Ilkley town centre in March for the town’s first pancake race.
Ilkley Rotary Club wants to establish the pancake race as an annual event, following the tradition of towns such as Ripon and Olney, in Buckinghamshire.
Olney is said to have been running annual pancake races since the 15th century.
Ilkley’s first day of races will take place on central shopping street The Grove on Shrove Tuesday, March 8, when teams of runners will line up.
The event will raise money for the TFL Rotary Fund, which is fighting for the final eradication of polio all over the world.
The club has now cleared the event, and the temporary closure of The Grove to traffic, with Bradford Council.
Any businesses that would like to sponsor the event, and anyone who would like to compete in the adult race, should contact Mr Lowe on (01943) 817939.
