Schoolgirl Megan Isabella Slater was not really expecting a reply to her letter to the future King of England.
But when an envelope with the royal crest on it arrived, her family was in no doubt where it had come from.
Her grandmother, Deanna Middleton, said they had been amazed.
She said: “Megan is always writing letters to people, when they’re ill or something like that, and she said she’d like to write to Prince William and Kate Middleton congratulating them on their engagement. I just sent it to St James’ Palace, London, and it got there.”
Megan, who lives with mum, Belinda, and grandparents, Deanna and Joseph, in Castle Street, Skipton, and goes to Parish Church Primary School, received a reply from the couple’s secretary, thanking her for her kind letter.
“Megan wrote something like she thought they made a lovely couple and wanted to send her congratulations, I had to tell her how to spell congratulations, because she is only six years old,” said Mrs Middleton.
“I sent it off and really didn’t think any more of it, then this letter arrived with ER on the front.
‘‘We think it’s really lovely, we never expected it and it’ll be something Megan can look back on when Prince William is king.”
