Bradford Council is considering legal action against a developer who knocked down a garage against agreed planning conditions.
A demolition company moved on to a site between Alton Grove, Norwood Avenue and Wharncliffe Road, Shipley, and demolished the garage, sparking outrage among residents.
Planning officers visited the site this week after complaints from more than 40 residents, some who blockaded the contractors’ vehicles from getting to the site.
They also complained about workers damaging trees and burning waste, which they claim is against planning conditions agreed when developers were given permission to build ten flats on the derelict land.
As reported in yesterday’s Telegraph & Argus, Shipley Councillor Kevin Warnes described it as the “worst breach of planning consent” he had seen in his seven years as a Councillor.
Bradford Council said an officer visited the site and the next move is being considered.
The spokesman said: “The demolition contractor responsible in Alton Grove did not give prior notification but has now informed us retrospectively.
“Planning enforcement officers have been in contact with the house developer separately. Discussions with them are ongoing to ensure that once building work begins it complies with the planning conditions, including protecting trees at the site.”
Shipley Councillor Martin Love, who supported the residents, said: “The developer is quite keen to take things forward in a more constructive way now. I’m pleased that the developer has been speaking with the residents and they have been allowed to have their say.”
