A body discovered in the River Wharfe has been confirmed as that of missing Bradford College student Steven Johnson.
The 22-year-old was reported missing by his family on Sunday after he failed to return from a Saturday night out with a friend in Wetherby.
He had last been seen on the bridge over the river in the town centre between 12.30am and 1am.
A member of the public is understood to have found his body yesterday floating in the river. West Yorkshire Police’s underwater search unit recovered his body and detectives from the force’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team were examining the scene.
A police spokesman said Mr Johnson’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
In a family statement his mother, Diane Johnson, said: “We are all very proud of Steven and you could not wish for a better son, brother and friend.
“He will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have known him."
