Jools Holland St George’s Hall
A regular viewer of his television shows, I’d never seen Jools Holland perform live before.
I’ve been missing a treat. Jools (sadly no relation) and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra had ’em dancing and rocking in the aisles at St George’s Hall.
The old building was filled to the rafters by high quality musicians having the time of their lives, cheered on by a capacity audience. It was time to party.
Centrepiece of this musical gala is Jools himself at the keyboard which seems like an extension is his hands. He plays sitting down, standing up, with both hands and one. He probably plays in his sleep.
Each member of the orchestra had at least one solo spot – and tremendous they all were.
There were some excellent guests too led by the soulful Alison Moyet, whose appearance alone would have been worth the price of a ticket.
Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall were equally well appreciated. This show is a foot-stomping, hand-clapping, head-shaking finger- clicking tornado of talent which swept up the audience of all ages and left them wanting more.
He’ll be back next year. Don’t miss it.
