The search is on for inspirational young people from Bradford to be recognised for their achievements at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Bradford Council is now accepting nominations for its fourth annual Young Citizen Awards, which will culminate with a celebrity-studded celebration event at St George’s Hall on Wednesday, March 9.
Coronation Street’s Sam Ashton, who plays Chesney Brown, and Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in Emmerdale, will join players from Bradford City and Bradford Bulls at the event.
The awards recognise the achievements of young people in five categories, taken from the Government’s Every Child Matters agenda.
They are Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contri-bution and Achieve Economic Wellbeing.
There will be two awards in each category, one for children under 11 and one for young people aged 11 to 25.
Nominees should have been involved in or developed a programme or piece of work that reflects one of the themes and be a positive role model for young people.
The awards are designed to reflect the Council’s “b someone” campaign which encourages young people to succeed, improve their skills and fulfil their potential.
Councillor Ralph Berry said: “There are so many young people out there who are an inspiration, not only to their peers but to all of us. These awards recognise the good work that young people do in this district.”
Closing date is Thursday, January 27. For a nomination form, call (01274) 433582 or visit bradford.gov.uk.
Nominations should be sent to Cain Lewis, Bradford Integrated Youth Service, 1 City Road, Bradford, BD8 8ER.
