A mum is mourning the deaths of her two sons within months of each other.
Christopher Wallace, 20, was killed in a horrific car crash in Halifax Road, Buttershaw, Bradford, early on Thursday.
His devastated family were still struggling to come to terms with the loss of his older brother Nicky, 22, who hanged himself in Bowling Park, Bradford, last September.
Christopher, known as Spud, of Queensbury, was in a black Ford Focus that went out of control near traffic-light-controlled roadworks smashing at high speed into a sandwich shop.
The force of the impact crushed the driver’s side of the car and the offside front wheel was ripped off.
He and another man in his 20s were cut from the wreckage by firefighters. The other man, who has not been named, last night remained in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary. Christopher’s distraught mother, Adele Wallace, who also has a daughter Stacey, was being comforted by family yesterday and was too upset to speak about the tragedy.
Earlier this week, Mrs Wallace, also of Queensbury, made a poignant appeal in the Telegraph & Argus for people to always take suicide threats by young men seriously in the hope of preventing similar deaths to that of her son Nicky. Police are still investigating the cause of Thursday’s crash which occurred shortly before 4am and did not involve any other vehicles.
Christopher would have been celebrating his 21st birthday in two weeks’ time.
A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday to try to establish the exact cause of his death.
Police have urged witnesses and anyone who saw the car being driven shortly before the crash to contact the Force’s Major Collision Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police on (01924) 293047.
