Ilkley could lose its museum, other leisure facilities and public toilets under plans being drawn up by Bradford Council, a councillor has warned.

Coun Mike Gibbons has told fellow parish councillors at a meeting of Ilkley Parish Council he has “grave” concerns about the future of services in the town as local authority cuts start to bite.

Coun Gibbons said he understood lists of possible savings included all public toilets in the district and the Manor House Museum. Swimming pools were also not safe.

He later said all the town’s public buildings were at risk, including the King’s Hall and Winter Gardens, the Lido and the library.

But his attempt to raise more money through the parish council to support facilities under threat was thwarted as members voted to increase its precept for 2011/2012 by one per cent.

Ilkley Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, who is leader of Bradford Council’s Conservative group, said no formal lists had been drawn up, but she said: “The parish councillors should consider long and hard before they introduce new expenditure and should wait and see what’s going to happen.”
