Two men were in police custody being quizzed by detectives last night about a shooting in a residential area of Keighley.

The arrests were made late yesterday afternoon following the gun blast aimed at a house in Eel Holme View Street in the Beechcliffe area of the town some hours earlier.

Armed officers were sent to the scene after gunfire was reported by people in the area and a car was found abandoned in the street.

Officers say the target for the attack at about 9.30am was a house where there was damage to a front door from pellets which could be seen.

No-one was injured and a vehicle connected to the incident was recovered nearby.

Peter Joy, 73, who lives near the crime scene, said: “I was reading the paper when I heard two shots.

“I knew it was a shotgun. I opened the front door and looked out and there was a silver-coloured car further down the street.

“It had one of its back doors open but I couldn’t see anyone.

“Then it made off down the street really quickly.” Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Airedale and North Bradford CID on 0845 6060606.
