It isn’t just bones that disappear when Sophie the dog is around.

Since being re-homed to Carleton magician Ian Brown, the terrier has become his assistant, performing an array of tricks.

And now the honorary member of the Magic Circle is to show off her new skills in the upcoming Britain’s Got Talent TV show.

She has already made it through the first audition.

“Sophie did me proud and, while not being overconfident, I felt that we gave it our best shot,” said Mr Brown.

The next stage of the competition takes place on Friday when Ian and Sophie will perform their magic tricks in front of an audience of 2,000 people at Manchester Opera House.

They will also face the three main judges – actress Amanda Holden, comedian Michael McIntyre and actor David Hasselhoff – and their buzzers.

Mr Brown said: “What we offer is unique – I don’t know of another magician’s assistant who is a dog.

“What Sophie has achieved is not bad for an overexcited dog who spent six of her first 12 months in an animal sanctuary.”

Sophie has charmed charities, rest homes and Scout troops with free magic shows, and appeared as Toto in Skipton Amateur Operatic Society’s production of The Wizard of Oz.
