The New Community Arts Academy is throwing itself into panto season with a giant beanstalk, a comedy cow and a bag of magic beans.
Founded four years ago, the theatre company is run by a team of volunteers, with both a professional and amateur background, working tirelessly to provide performing arts tuition for a range of youngsters in the district.
Their annual panto, Jack And The Beanstalk, will be performed at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, from February 1 to 6.
Classes in performing arts, dance, acting and singing for youngsters aged up to 18, and up to 25 for those with special needs, take place on Wednesdays at Bolton St James’s Church Hall, Beaufort Grove, off Bolton Road, Bradford.
“Within the group, we probably have 35 per cent of young people with special needs. We also have an adult choir. Many of our volunteers are retired, many work in education, social work or the private sector,” says artistic director Russell Whittingham. “We’re looking for new members of all ages to work onstage, backstage or front of house. We’re also seeking businesses to be sponsors of the company.”
Russell adds: “We have big plans for future productions, following on from our acclaimed Bradford premiere of Hairspray back in April and Brassed Off in October.”
Ticket discounts for Jack And The Beanstalk are offered for groups of more than 30 people and family groups.
