The family of a young woman who died two days after Christmas have spoken of their devastation at the sudden and unexpected loss of the bubbly 21-year-old.

Jodie Manley, who lived with her mum and step dad, Mandy and Peter Murphy in Allerton, Bradford, had enjoyed celebrating Christmas with her friends and family, including her dad and step mum Mick and Lynn Manley, of Wibsey and fiancé Adam Crompton, of Lidget Green.

She complained of a headache at home on Boxing Day, before suffering what appeared to be a fit. She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and admitted to intensive care unit. She died at 1.01pm on December 27.

Her mother said: “It was totally out of the blue and no-one knows what happened. We are all devastated as you can imagine.”

She said Jodie, who attended Rhodesway School and was sister to Toni, Gareth, Talia, Robert and Rebecca, loved her job as a hairdresser, socialising with her many friends and going on holiday.

“She was bubbly and always happy,” said Mrs Murphy. “Everyone just loved her.”

Jodie’s aunt, Christine Manley, said Diamond Cuts, in Cottingley Road, Sandy Lane, where Jodie worked full-time as a stylist, closed as a mark of respect following her death and held an open day on New Year’s Eve in tribute to her.

“There was a stream of people all day – all the Sandy Lane community knew her because she was always waving and would smile at people,” she said. “She was stunning.”

Jodie met Adam at school and they had become engaged in July.

“They were going to look for a house together this year and then plan a wedding,” added Christine.

Joanne Diamond, who owns Diamond Cuts with husband Michael, paid tribute to Jodie saying: “She has been a pleasure every day – a joy to have here.

“She came straight from school and had worked here for five-and-a-half years. She was reliable and trustworthy and the life and soul. She is irreplaceable.”

Her funeral takes place at the Parish Church of St Wilfrid, Lidget Green, on Tuesday at 10.30am followed by private cremation. Donations have been requested for the Intensive Care Unit at BRI.
