People of all ages stampeded through Saltaire yesterday in a delayed festive fun run.
Originally planned for December, the Epilepsy Action Reindeer Stampede was postponed due to icy conditions.
Runners were still in the festive spirit for the race, many donning reindeer antlers to complete the course in Roberts Park.
Organisers now say they hope to repeat the event in future years.
Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “We were disappointed this event did not go ahead in December, and we had our doubts again after Friday’s snow.
“But we made some last-minute changes to the course to avoid ice patches and it’s gone really well.
“We’re delighted everyone involved managed to find that last bit of festive spirit to complete the course and the event has provided the runners with a healthy start to the New Year.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to all our reindeer runners and our excellent marshals and volunteers who braved the cold to help out.”
Among those taking part in the race was Mubashar Ishfaq, 21, of Manningham. He said: “I have got a friend who has got epilepsy and from him I have heard of friends of his who are quite badly affected. These events help raise awareness.”
Alison Laffey, 69, and other members of Slimming World in Shipley were taking part in the run. She said: “Some of the group have done a lot of training. It is all for a good cause.”
Epilepsy is the UK’s most common neurological condition affecting one in 131 people. Last year Epilepsy Action helped more than 688,000 people through its helpline (0808) 8005050 and website epilepsy.org.uk.
