Two famous steam engines are soon to take centre stage on a heritage railway after undergoing major repairs.
“Big Jim”, an American S160 class locomotive, and a black F4 Midland Railway engine – one of only two in the country – have been off the rails for at least 15 years.
They are nearing the end of extensive repairs, especially to their boilers, and are due to be in steam again along the five mile Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
The S160 made its mark starring in the hit movie Yanks, much of which was filmed in Keighley in 1978 by director John Schlesinger with many local people as extras.
The F4 is known for being the first steam engine rescued from the Barry Scrapyard in South Wales soon after steam locomotives were removed from service in the early 1960s.
