A car dealer escaped a driving ban after magistrates heard he would struggle to make a living.
Fayaz Ahmed, 30, was stopped by police in Keighley Road, Skipton, on November 5 while using a mobile phone, Skipton Court heard.
Ahmed, who already had 11 points on his licence, was in danger of an automatic six-month driving ban.
Ahmed said he would suffer exceptional hardship if he was to receive a ban.
Ahmed, of Odette Court, Bingley, had his licence endorsed with three penalty points and was fined £60.
He was also ordered to pay £45 costs and a £15 victims surcharge.
