A 67-year-old man offered a girl aged 15 the sum of £1,000 to have sex with him, a jury heard.

Ray Spence plied the teenager he nicknamed “Juicy” with cigarettes, flowers and scanty underwear, Bradford Crown Court was told.

He said he “fancied the pants off her”, pestered her with text messages, suggested a weekend together in Blackpool, kissed her and squeezed her buttocks, it is alleged.

The pensioner, of Staveley Road, Ingrow, Keighley, denies causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two charges of sexual assault.

Peter Moulson, for the prosecution, said the alleged offences took place when the girl was 15 and Spence 66 or 67.

The jury was told yesterday that Spence’s messages included: “I have got feelings for you,” and “You look stunning.”

The teenager said Spence bought her three pairs of thongs from Asda after asking what size she was. He also paid for a bikini for a sunshine holiday he had booked for the girl and his family.

The girl, whose identity is legally protected, claimed Spence grabbed her face and licked and kissed it and squeezed her buttocks.

He bought her flowers and urged her to “Come down for a Blue Reef”, an alcoholic drink.

The teenager said she felt sick when Spence licked her face. “It was horrible,” she told the police.

She said that when Spence gave her cigarettes, he put them down her vest top.

Mr Mouslon said the teenager, who was a virgin who had never had a boyfriend, received a text message from Spence saying: “If I give you £1,000, maybe it will sort these feelings out. What can you get for £1,000?”

“I had an idea what it was about,” she told the court.

“He wanted to buy sex. I just said ‘no’ and went home. He said he would ask again when I was 16.”

The teenager added: “I felt dirty and scared of what he might do.”

She said she showed a woman friend some of the texts and then alerted her mother to what was going on.

“It needed to come out,” the girl said.

Her mother told the court she thought the gift of thongs “inappropriate”.

“I thought he was eccentric but harmless,” she said.

Spence told the police he offered the girl £1,000 to help her with her career.

The trial continues.
