A 17th century manor house in the district has beaten dozens of other National Trust properties to win £20,000 in a competition.
East Riddlesden Hall, in Keighley, found favour with members of the public who were invited to vote for the attraction as part of an initiative called the Bovril Great Outdoors Revival.
National Trust sites across the country competed for votes to secure funding to carry out restoration and enhancement projects. East Riddlesden Hall had asked for people’s support to enable it to open up land currently closed to the public.
The hall’s learning and community officer Cassandra Cowie said: “At the closing time of the competition we sat proudly at number one. We have beaten 78 other National Trust properties.
“Not only is this a great result for us, it is a great result for Keighley, as we will now be the focus of international publicity.
“The money will be spent on opening up 40 acres of our land.
“We will put in some accessible pathways, clear the river and create a new haven for wildlife.”
