Following the release of his new album, Northern Soul Hits, and hot on the heels of his West End stage debut in hit musical Dreamboats And Petticoats, Tony Christie returns to Bradford this spring.
Along with his eight-piece band, he’ll be showcasing songs from the new album as well as hits such as Avenues And Alleyways and (Is This The Way To) Amarillo, the 1971 hit that catapulted Tony back into the charts in 2005 when it was re-released as the official Comic Relief single.
Born Anthony Fitzgerald in 1943 in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, Tony started off fronting Tony Christie and the Trackers around clubs and was spotted during a performance in Wales which led to his first single, Life’s Too Good To Waste, in 1966.
His career took off when he was teamed with hit song-writing team Mitch Murray and Peter Callander, and in 1971 came his first hit, Las Vegas, followed by I Did What I Did For Maria, Don’t Go Down To Reno and worldwide hit Amarillo, co-written by Neil Sedaka. - Tony Christie is at St George’s Hall on Saturday, May 7.
