First came Alan Parker’s gritty 1980 film about a bunch of fame-hungry teenagers, which inspired the sugary Eighties TV series spawning the decade’s leotards and leg-warmers fashion trend.
Then came the stage musical, which became a smash hit on Broadway and in the West End, and then another film version.
Fame, the popular musical about life at New York’s School for Performing Arts, is to be staged at the Alhambra Studio, and auditions are planned for anyone who fancies taking part. Auditionees must be aged 14-plus and able to sing, act and dance. Open auditions will take place in the Old Building at Bradford College this month.
Rehearsals, also due to start this month, will take place there, and at the Delius Arts and Cultural Centre. For an audition, or more information, call (01274) 737407, text 07535 701900 or e-mail Fame11@gmx.com.
How does that line go again…? “Fame costs, and here’s where you start paying – in sweat.”
