Midwife Dawn Wright was the district’s first new mother of the year.
Usually the 30-year-old from Silsden is helping other people’s babies arrive safely but this time it was her turn to push – and the baby took just eight minutes to deliver.
At 12.08am on January 1, 2011, tiny Freya Mae arrived weighing in at 7lbs 7oz. She is the first child for Dawn and husband Jonathan.
The birth was at Airedale General Hospital, much to the delight of Dawn’s colleagues.
“She was definitely in a rush to get out. It was all very surreal. I can’t believe I’ve done it,” said Dawn who has worked on the labour and new baby ward at Airedale for seven years.
