A training room dedicated to the memory of an A&E nurse who died suddenly has been opened at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Steve Jones, a charge nurse and father-of-two, of Guiseley, died suddenly in 2008 at the age of 37, and since then staff have been raising money in his memory.
Now a resource room in the basement of A&E has been refurbished and renamed in Steve’s honour.
A&E matron Terry Wood said: “Steve loved to work in this room, spending hours and hours training colleagues and staff from around the organisation. “ The re-named Steve Jones Training Room has been redecorated and new seating has been installed.
A ceremony in Steve’s honour was held where staff, family and friends gathered to hear dedications from chief nurse Sally Ferguson and Terry Wood. A short blessing was provided by hospital chaplain, the Reverend David Muschamp and Steve’s children Sam and Ellen unveiled a plaque.
Steve’s wife Julie said: “The opening of the ‘Steve Jones Training Room’ is really special as it means there will always be a place where Steve can be remembered.”
A&E staff have raised £13,000 for the trust fund set up in Steve’s name.
More fundraising events in Steve’s honour are being planned for 2011.
