A successful scheme encouraging motorists to car share is set to be introduced on to roads in some of the worst-congested areas of Shipley.
Bradford Car Share already has more many members who have signed up to cut fuel and parking costs, congestion and pollution.
The scheme works by two or more people sharing a car and travelling together and has been successful in Manningham, Keighley and Apper-ley Bridge.
Now it will be introduced in the Shipley area, a Bradford Council spokesman said.
Signs promoting car sharing will be put up in Otley Road, Baildon, near George Street, in Baildon Road, near the junction with Hinchliffe Avenue, and in Bingley Road, Saltaire, near the junction with Sleningford Road.
Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment, said: “These three sites in Shipley and Baildon are traffic congestion areas where we hope to encourage car sharing along with another three sites in Manningham, Keighley and Apper-ley Bridge.
“About 1,000 people are registered on the Council’s Bradford Carshare.com website which is cutting the number of vehicles on our roads.
“It is a free and easy-to-use service for finding possible car-share partners and helps people to save money and the environment.
“I hope the signs, if approved, will increase the numbers using the service further and cut down the level of traffic.”
Shipley Green Councillor Martin Love, said: “This is really to try to encourage people to car share, either with their work colleagues or people who may be taking the same kind of journeys. The Council website matches people up with others and there is advice on there about safety and security.
“I have seen similar schemes in Harrogate and Leeds, as well as Bradford, and they have been quite successful. People will be able to save an awful lot of money and save on traffic pollution as well. If we can get a few more cars off the road, it makes it better for everyone.”
