A new scholarship scheme for dancers, offering three £500 bursaries for training, mentorships and other opportunities, has been started in Bradford.
Funded by West Yorkshire Grants, the first Dance Bradford Scholarship Scheme has been announced by Bradford arts development agency Fabric, on behalf of the Dance Bradford network.
It will offer bursaries to young people aged 14 to 19, who are looking to develop their futures in dance.
The scholarships could be awarded for opportunities, such as attending a course or workshop, undertaking a traineeship, or attending performances or other dance-related activity, as long as the applicant can demonstrate how it will benefit them and the development of their dance future.
Recipients will need to show what they have learned or gained through the scholarship. Three bursaries of £500 will be given.
Applicants need to live in or have a connection to Bradford.
When submitting their proposals they should include: a brief introduction, including date of birth; address, postcode and connection to Bradford; what activity the scholarship is for, including costs; how this is expected to enhance professional dance development; why a scholarship is needed to achieve this activity; and how they can demonstrate what they have learned to the funders and people of Bradford district.
Submit proposals to Alissa Juvan at Fabric at: alissa. juvan@creativebradford.co.uk or by post to Fabric, The Design Exchange, 34 Peckover Street, Bradford, BD1 5BD. Ring Fabric on (01274) 370291.
Dance Bradford was established in 2008 by Fabric, with the aim of bringing together the district’s dance organisations.
